MANEFESTOS:
1. Fran Dean for Trans Officer
Hello. My name is Fran Dean and I wish
to apply to be the Trans Officer for next year.
I fall under the trans umbrella myself
as a genderqueer person.
I would like to encourage open
discussions about the boundaries of gender and identity; provide
education about the difference between sex, gender identity, gender
expression and sexual orientation; and to tackle the myth of the gender
binary. I would like this to reach as many students as possible.
Most importantly I'd like to be a
friendly face that anyone transgender, gender-variant or questioning
could approach without fear. I don't claim to be the most
knowledgable, but I'm always learning, thinking, and questioning boundaries. I believe in the freedom of self-definition and recognising all of those definitions as legit.
There's a whole lot to talk about with
the T in LGBT, and its discussion is relevant to everyone.
And that's my manifesto; hopefully
you'll think the position suits me to a T.
2. Jessica Faulks for Treasurer
I would like to apply for the Treasurer position as I have previously been treasurer for my old college’s SU. Throughout a year, we raised £3,500 for charity, I had the splendid job of counting all these coins, bagging them up and carrying them to the bank. We also made large profits as an organisation through social events, having around £15,000 in the bank, which I was on the mandate and kept records of. Along with this I had to deal with bars arranging financial agreements and sorting out any issues that arise. I thoroughly enjoyed this position and have a good knowledge of finance, having achieved an A in IFS Finance.
3. Hazel Aspinall for Social Secretary
I am again applying for the position of Social Secretary with Leeds Metropolitan LGBT society. From starting late in this position and becoming one of two new members in this year’s committee I have developed networks with other people associated with the society, both internal and external to Leeds Metropolitan University. I have networked well with Liam Keogh (who promotes Homo and BackDoor disco, both at Mission nightclub) and Bradford LGBT society, liaising to organise joint events. I have worked as part of a team to promote the attention of the society and wish to continue to develop the networks and promotion of the society with the assistance of other committee members.
In the last year I have shown flexibility and have not been afraid to ask for assistance from other members (to put messages out on facebook, advertising events for example) when my University workload has been heavy. I have made good suggestions for ideas in meetings but accept when my idea is overruled.
